1 Izay mitokana ho azy dia mitady ny mahafinaritra ny tenany ihany, Misafoaka manohitra izay hevitra mahasoa rehetra izy.

2 Ny adala tsy mba finaritra amin'ny fahalalana, Fa ta-haneho izay ao am-pony.

3 Raha avy ny ratsy fanahy, dia avy ny fanamavoana; Ary miaraka amin'ny fahafaham-baraka ny henatra.

4 Rano lalina ny teny aloaky ny vavan'ny olona, Ary rano miboiboika ny loharanon'ny fahendrena,

5 Tsy mety raha manohana ny ratsy fanahy Handresy ny marina amin'ny fitsarana.

6 Ny molotry ny adala manatona ny fifandirana, Ary ny vavany mihantsy kapoka.

7 Ny vavan'ny adala no fandringanana azy, Ary ny molony ihany no fandriky ny fanahiny.

8 Ny tenin'ny mpifosafosa dia toy ny hanim-py Ka mikorotsaka ao anaty kibo indrindra.

9 Ary izay malaina amin'ny asany Dia rahalahin'ny mpanimba.

10 Ny anaran'i Jehovah dia tilikambo mafy; Ny marina miezaka ho ao aminy ka voavonjy*.[Heb. atao amin'ny avo]

11 Ny haren'ny manan-karena no vohiny mafy, Ary raha araka ny fiheviny, dia toa manda avo izany.

12 Ny fireharehan'ny fon'ny olona mialoha ny fahasimbana; Fa ny fanetren-tena kosa mialoha ny voninahitra.

13 Izay mamaly teny mbola tsy re, Dia hadalana sy henatra ho azy izany.

14 Ny faharariany dia zakan'ny fanahin'ny olona ihany; Fa ny fanahy kivy, iza no mahazaka izany?

15 Ny fon'ny manan-tsaina mahazo fahalalana; Ary ny sofin'ny hendry mitady izany.

16 Ny fanomezan'ny olona dia mahalalaka ny alehany, Hahatonga azy eo anatrehan'ny lehibe.

17 Izay mandahatra aloha no toa marina; Fa nony avy kosa ny an-daniny, dia mamaly ny teniny.

18 Ny filokana mampitsahatra ady Ary mampisaraka ny samy mahery.

19 Ny mampionona ny rahalahy voaisy ratsy dia sarotra noho ny manafaka vohitra mafy, Ary ny fifandirana aminy dia tahaka ny hidin'ny lapan'ny mpanjaka.

20 Ny vokatry ny vavan'ny olona no mahavoky soa azy; Eny, ny vokatry ny molony no mahavoky azy.

21 Ny mahafaty sy ny mahavelona samy hain'ny lela, Koa izay manarana azy dia hihinana ny vokany.

22 Izay lehilahy mahazo vady dia mahazo zava-tsoa Sady mahita sitraka amin'i Jehovah.

23 Fitarainana no ataon'ny malahelo; Nefa ny manan-karena kosa dia mamaly mahery.

24 Izay maro sakaiza tsy maintsy tra-pahoriana*; Fa misy sakaiza tia, izay mifikitra noho ny rahalahy aza.[Na: tsy maintsy hita fa ratsy]

18:1 An unfriendly man pursues selfishness,
and defies all sound judgment.
18:2 A fool has no delight in understanding,
but only in revealing his own opinion.
18:3 When wickedness comes, contempt also comes,
and with shame comes disgrace.
18:4 The words of a man’s mouth are like deep waters.
The fountain of wisdom is like a flowing brook.
18:5 To be partial to the faces of the wicked is not good,
nor to deprive the innocent of justice.
18:6 A fool’s lips come into strife,
and his mouth invites beatings.
18:7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction,
and his lips are a snare to his soul.
18:8 The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels:
they go down into a person’s innermost parts.
18:9 One who is slack in his work
is brother to him who is a master of destruction.
18:10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower:
the righteous run to him, and are safe.
18:11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.
18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is proud,
but before honor is humility.
18:13 He who gives answer before he hears,
that is folly and shame to him.
18:14 A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness,
but a crushed spirit, who can bear?
18:15 The heart of the discerning gets knowledge.
The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
18:16 A man’s gift makes room for him,
and brings him before great men.
18:17 He who pleads his cause first seems right;
until another comes and questions him.
18:18 The lot settles disputes,
and keeps strong ones apart.
18:19 A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city;
and disputes are like the bars of a castle.
18:20 A man’s stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth.
With the harvest of his lips he is satisfied.
18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue;
those who love it will eat its fruit.
18:22 Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing,
and obtains favor of Yahweh.
18:23 The poor plead for mercy,
but the rich answer harshly.
18:24 A man of many companions may be ruined,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

1 Celui qui se tient à l'écart cherche ce qui lui plaît, Il s'irrite contre tout ce qui est sage. 2 Ce n'est pas à l'intelligence que l'insensé prend plaisir, C'est à la manifestation de ses pensées. 3 Quand vient le méchant, vient aussi le mépris; Et avec la honte, vient l'opprobre. 4 Les paroles de la bouche d'un homme sont des eaux profondes; La source de la sagesse est un torrent qui jaillit. 5 Il n'est pas bon d'avoir égard à la personne du méchant, Pour faire tort au juste dans le jugement. 6 Les lèvres de l'insensé se mêlent aux querelles, Et sa bouche provoque les coups. 7 La bouche de l'insensé cause sa ruine, Et ses lèvres sont un piège pour son âme. 8 Les paroles du rapporteur sont comme des friandises, Elles descendent jusqu'au fond des entrailles. 9 Celui qui se relâche dans son travail Est frère de celui qui détruit. 10 Le nom de l'Éternel est une tour forte; Le juste s'y réfugie, et se trouve en sûreté. 11 La fortune est pour le riche une ville forte; Dans son imagination, c'est une haute muraille. 12 Avant la ruine, le coeur de l'homme s'élève; Mais l'humilité précède la gloire. 13 Celui qui répond avant d'avoir écouté Fait un acte de folie et s'attire la confusion. 14 L'esprit de l'homme le soutient dans la maladie; Mais l'esprit abattu, qui le relèvera? 15 Un coeur intelligent acquiert la science, Et l'oreille des sages cherche la science. 16 Les présents d'un homme lui élargissent la voie, Et lui donnent accès auprès des grands. 17 Le premier qui parle dans sa cause paraît juste; Vient sa partie adverse, et on l'examine. 18 Le sort fait cesser les contestations, Et décide entre les puissants. 19 Des frères sont plus intraitables qu'une ville forte, Et leurs querelles sont comme les verrous d'un palais. 20 C'est du fruit de sa bouche que l'homme rassasie son corps, C'est du produit de ses lèvres qu'il se rassasie. 21 La mort et la vie sont au pouvoir de la langue; Quiconque l'aime en mangera les fruits. 22 Celui qui trouve une femme trouve le bonheur; C'est une grâce qu'il obtient de l'Éternel. 23 Le pauvre parle en suppliant, Et le riche répond avec dureté. 24 Celui qui a beaucoup d'amis les a pour son malheur, Mais il est tel ami plus attaché qu'un frère.
