4 Lasa ny taranaka iray, ary mandimby kosa ny taranaka iray; fa ny tany mbola maharitra mandrakizay.

6 Mianatsimo ny rivotra, dia mihodina mianavaratra, mivezivezy mandrakariva izy ka miverimberina manodidina indray.

9 Izay efa teo ihany no ho tonga indray, ary izay efa natao ihany no mbola hatao indray fa tsy misy zava-baovao akory atỳ ambanin'ny masoandro.

10 Raha misy zavatra azo lazaina hoe: He! ity no vaovao, dia ilay efa teo ela tany amin'ny andro talohantsika ihany izany.

11 Tsy misy fahatsiarovana ny taloha; ary ny ho avy koa dia tsy hotsarovan'izay handimby azy.

12 [Ny tsy ahitana fahafaham-po, na dia amin'ny fitadiavam-pahendrena aza] Izaho Mpitoriteny dia mpanjakan'ny Isiraely tany Jerosalema;

13 ary nampiasaiko ny foko mba hitady sy hikatsaka amim-pahendrena ny zavatra rehetra izay atao atỳ ambanin'ny lanitra; asa mahareraka omen'Andriamanitra hisasaran'ny zanak'olombelona izany.

14 Efa hitako ny zavatra rehetra izay atao atỳ ambanin'ny masoandro; fa, indro, zava-poana sy misambo-drivotra* foana izany rehetra izany.[Na: Homan-drivotra]

15 Ny meloka tsy mety tonga mahitsy; ary ny tsy ao tsy mba azo isaina*.[Na: ny tsi-fahampiana dia tsy tambo isaina]

16 Hoy izaho tamin'ny foko: Indro, izaho nahazo fahendrena be dia be mihoatra noho izay rehetra talohako teto Jerosalema; eny, ny foko nahita ny fahendrena sy ny fahalalana betsaka.

17 Ary nampiasaiko ny foko hahalala fahendrena sy hahalala fahaverezan-tsaina sy fahadalana; dia fantatro fa misambo-drivotra* foana koa izany,[Na: Homan-drivotra]

18 satria izay be fahendrena dia be alahelo, ary izay mitombo fahalalana dia mitombo fahoriana.

Chapitre 1
1:1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem:

1:2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” 1:3 What does man gain from all his labor in which he labors under the sun? 1:4 One generation goes, and another generation comes; but the earth remains forever. 1:5 The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, and hurries to its place where it rises. 1:6 The wind goes toward the south, and turns around to the north. It turns around continually as it goes, and the wind returns again to its courses. 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, there they flow again. 1:8 All things are full of weariness beyond uttering. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 1:9 That which has been is that which shall be; and that which has been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 1:10 Is there a thing of which it may be said, “Behold, this is new?” It has been long ago, in the ages which were before us. 1:11 There is no memory of the former; neither shall there be any memory of the latter that are to come, among those that shall come after.

1:12 I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 1:13 I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under the sky. It is a heavy burden that God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. 1:14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and a chasing after wind. 1:15 That which is crooked can’t be made straight; and that which is lacking can’t be counted. 1:16 I said to myself, “Behold, I have obtained for myself great wisdom above all who were before me in Jerusalem. Yes, my heart has had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.” 1:17 I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also was a chasing after wind. 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief; and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.

1 Paroles de l'Ecclésiaste, fils de David, roi de Jérusalem. 2 Vanité des vanités, dit l'Ecclésiaste, vanité des vanités, tout est vanité. 3 Quel avantage revient-il à l'homme de toute la peine qu'il se donne sous le soleil? 4 Une génération s'en va, une autre vient, et la terre subsiste toujours. 5 Le soleil se lève, le soleil se couche; il soupire après le lieu d'où il se lève de nouveau. 6 Le vent se dirige vers le midi, tourne vers le nord; puis il tourne encore, et reprend les mêmes circuits. 7 Tous les fleuves vont à la mer, et la mer n'est point remplie; ils continuent à aller vers le lieu où ils se dirigent. 8 Toutes choses sont en travail au delà de ce qu'on peut dire; l'oeil ne se rassasie pas de voir, et l'oreille ne se lasse pas d'entendre. 9 Ce qui a été, c'est ce qui sera, et ce qui s'est fait, c'est ce qui se fera, il n'y a rien de nouveau sous le soleil. 10 S'il est une chose dont on dise: Vois ceci, c'est nouveau! cette chose existait déjà dans les siècles qui nous ont précédés. 11 On ne se souvient pas de ce qui est ancien; et ce qui arrivera dans la suite ne laissera pas de souvenir chez ceux qui vivront plus tard. 12 Moi, l'Ecclésiaste, j'ai été roi d'Israël à Jérusalem. 13 J'ai appliqué mon coeur à rechercher et à sonder par la sagesse tout ce qui se fait sous les cieux: c'est là une occupation pénible, à laquelle Dieu soumet les fils de l'homme. 14 J'ai vu tout ce qui se fait sous le soleil; et voici, tout est vanité et poursuite du vent. 15 Ce qui est courbé ne peut se redresser, et ce qui manque ne peut être compté. 16 J'ai dit en mon coeur: Voici, j'ai grandi et surpassé en sagesse tous ceux qui ont dominé avant moi sur Jérusalem, et mon coeur a vu beaucoup de sagesse et de science. 17 J'ai appliqué mon coeur à connaître la sagesse, et à connaître la sottise et la folie; j'ai compris que cela aussi c'est la poursuite du vent. 18 Car avec beaucoup de sagesse on a beaucoup de chagrin, et celui qui augmente sa science augmente sa douleur.
