Chapitre 33

1 Ary Jakoba dia nanopy ny masony ka nahatazana fa indro tamy Esao, mitondra efa-jato lahy. Dia nozarazarainy ny zaza ho amin'i Lea sy Rahely ary ho amin'ny ankizivavy roa.

2 Ary nataony loha-lalana ny ankizivavy roa sy ny zanany, ary Lea sy ny zanany nanarakaraka, ary Rahely sy Josefa no vodi-lalana.

3 Ary Jakoba nandeha teo alohan'izy rehetra ka niankohoka impito tamin'ny tany mandra-pahatongany teo akaikin'ny rahalahiny.

4 Dia nihazakazaka hitsena azy Esao, ary nisakambina ny tendany, dia namihina sy nanoroka azy; ary samy nitomany izy mirahalahy.

5 Ary Esao nanopy ny masony ka nahita ny zaza amim-behivavy; dia hoy izy: Iza moa ireto miaraka aminao ireto? Ary hoy kosa Jakoba: Ny zaza izay nomen'Andriamanitra ny mpanomponao noho ny fahasoavany.

6 Dia nanatona ny ankizivavy sy ny zanany ka niankohoka.

7 Dia nanatona koa Lea sy ny zanany ka niankohoka; ary farany, dia nanatona koa Josefa sy Rahely ka niankohoka.

8 Ary hoy Esao: Inona moa no hevitr'ireny antokony rehetra nifanena tamiko ireny? Ary hoy izy: Mba hahitako fitia eto imason'itompokolahy.

9 Ary dia hoy Esao: Manam-be ihany aho, ry rahalahiko; aoka ihany ho anao ny anao.

10 Ary hoy Jakoba: Trarantitra ianao, aza an'izany; raha mba mahita fitia eto imasonao aho, dia raiso amin'ny tanako ny zavatra nampanateriko; fa efa nahita ny tavanao aho tahaka ny mahita ny tavan'Andriamanitra, ary efa sitrakao aho.

11 Trarantitra ianao, raiso re ny saotro izay nampanaterina ho anao; fa efa nanisy soa ahy Andriamanitra, ka manam-be aho. Dia nanery azy izy, ka dia noraisiny ihany ny zavatra.

12 Ary hoy Esao: Aoka hiainga isika, ka handeha hialoha anao aho.

13 Fa hoy Jakoba taminy: Fantatr'itompokolahy fa mbola osa ny zaza, sady ampianahany ny ondry aman'osy sy ny omby ato amiko; koa raha hokorodonina indray andro aza ireo, dia ho faty avokoa ny ondry aman'osy rehetra.

14 Trarantitra ianao, aoka itompokolahy hialoha ny mpanompony; ary izaho handeha miadana araka izay dian'ny omby aman'ondry, izay ho eo alohako, sy ny dian'ny zaza, mandra-pahatongako any amin'itompokolahy any Seira.

15 Ary hoy Esao: Masìna ianao, aoka ary mba hamelako hiaraka aminao ny olona izay momba ahy. Fa hoy Jakoba: Ahoana no anaovanao izany? Aoka hahita fitia eto imason'itompokolahy aho.

16 Dia niverina androtrizay Esao tamin'ny lalany ho any Seira.

17 Ary Jakoba nifindra nankany Sokota ka nanao trano ho azy ary nanao trano rantsan-kazo maromaro ho an'ny omby aman'ondriny; izany no nanaovana ny anaran'io tany io hoe Sokota.

18 Ary Jakoba tonga soa aman-tsara tao an-tanàna Sekema, izay eo amin'ny tany Kanana, rehefa avy tany Mesopotamia izy; dia nitoby tandrifin'ny tanàna.

19 Dia novidiny vola zato tamin'ny zanak'i Hamora, rain'i Sekema, ny tany izay nanorenany ny lainy.

20 Ary nanorina alitara teo izy, ka nataony hoe El-elohe-Isiraely ny anarany.

Chapitre 33

1 Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two handmaids.

2 He put the handmaids and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.

3 He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.

5 He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?”

He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”

6 Then the handmaids came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.

7 Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

 8 Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?”

Jacob said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”

9 Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”

10 Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me. 11 Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.

12 Esau said, “Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before you.”

13 Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die. 14 Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”

15 Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the folk who are with me.”

He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”

16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. 17 Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

18 Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city. 19 He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. 20 He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel.

Chapitre 33

1 Jacob leva les yeux, et regarda; et voici, Ésaü arrivait, avec quatre cents hommes. Il répartit les enfants entre Léa, Rachel, et les deux servantes.

2 Il plaça en tête les servantes avec leurs enfants, puis Léa avec ses enfants, et enfin Rachel avec Joseph.

3 Lui-même passa devant eux; et il se prosterna en terre sept fois, jusqu'à ce qu'il fût près de son frère.

4 Ésaü courut à sa rencontre; il l'embrassa, se jeta à son cou, et le baisa. Et ils pleurèrent.

5 Ésaü, levant les yeux, vit les femmes et les enfants, et il dit: Qui sont ceux que tu as là? Et Jacob répondit: Ce sont les enfants que Dieu a accordés à ton serviteur.

6 Les servantes s'approchèrent, elles et leurs enfants, et se prosternèrent;

7 Léa et ses enfants s'approchèrent aussi, et se prosternèrent; ensuite Joseph et Rachel s'approchèrent, et se prosternèrent.

8 Ésaü dit: A quoi destines-tu tout ce camp que j'ai rencontré? Et Jacob répondit: A trouver grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur. 9 Ésaü dit: Je suis dans l'abondance, mon frère; garde ce qui est à toi. 10 Et Jacob répondit: Non, je te prie, si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, accepte de ma main mon présent; car c'est pour cela que j'ai regardé ta face comme on regarde la face de Dieu, et tu m'as accueilli favorablement. 11 Accepte donc mon présent qui t'a été offert, puisque Dieu m'a comblé de grâces, et que je ne manque de rien. Il insista auprès de lui, et Ésaü accepta. 12 Ésaü dit: Partons, mettons-nous en route; j'irai devant toi. 13 Jacob lui répondit: Mon seigneur sait que les enfants sont délicats, et que j'ai des brebis et des vaches qui allaitent; si l'on forçait leur marche un seul jour, tout le troupeau périrait. 14 Que mon seigneur prenne les devants sur son serviteur; et moi, je suivrai lentement, au pas du troupeau qui me précédera, et au pas des enfants, jusqu'à ce que j'arrive chez mon seigneur, à Séir. 15 Ésaü dit: Je veux au moins laisser avec toi une partie de mes gens. Et Jacob répondit: Pourquoi cela? Que je trouve seulement grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur! 16 Le même jour, Ésaü reprit le chemin de Séir. 17 Jacob partit pour Succoth. Il bâtit une maison pour lui, et il fit des cabanes pour ses troupeaux. C'est pourquoi l'on a appelé ce lieu du nom de Succoth. 18 A son retour de Paddan-Aram, Jacob arriva heureusement à la ville de Sichem, dans le pays de Canaan, et il campa devant la ville. 19 Il acheta la portion du champ où il avait dressé sa tente, des fils d'Hamor, père de Sichem, pour cent kesita. 20 Et là, il éleva un autel, qu'il appela El-Élohé-Israël.
